Red Mass
The Red Mass is a Mass of the Holy Spirit which is celebrated annually (in June) at the opening of the judicial year. This 13th Century European custom received its name from the red color of the vestments worn by the celebrant and the scarlet robes worn by the Lord High Justices. In the United States today, a Red Mass is celebrated in most of the major metropolitan areas and is attended by judges and public officials, both elected and appointed.
